While energy drinks have traditionally been consumed by teenagers and blue-collar workers, a slew of new brands are increasingly targeting a wider cohort of health-focused consumers. They are also looking for drinks with lower sugar and fewer calories with functional benefits such as immunity and hydration support. Big energy players are responding to the trend, with companies such as Monster and Red Bull launching zero sugar and low-calorie varieties. However, their innovation lags new brands, who are better able to adjust to consumer preferences and trends.
Health-Ade has launched a new aluminum can format for its kombucha beverages. The new aluminum can aims to create a lower barrier to entry for first-time consumers by lowering the price point and offering a more familiar format. Health-Ade’s can format will also help increase household penetration through providing multi-pack options. Additionally, Health-Ade can access new distribution channels that might not have been possible with the glass bottle. Health-Ade recently signed a multi-year deal with the LA Dodgers to sell its products in the stadium and market the benefits of kombucha, but the baseball stadium didn’t allow glass bottles to be served. The new can will be available individually or in four-packs nationwide at Sprouts, Whole Foods Market, and Walmart, and 12-can packs will be available from Health-Ade's website.
