Coca-Cola HBC Sinks €42 Million Into Two New Lines At Italian Facility

A €42m investment by Coca-Cola HBC will see expanded capacity at its Oricola factory in Italy, with two new lines, including one for energy drinks. Established in 1988, the plant in the Abruzzo region has manufactures Coca-Cola products, specializing in recycled plastic bottled SKUs in recent years. Completion of the lines by the end of 2024 should require an additional 50 employees. Coca-Cola HBC agreed last year to acquire the Finlandia vodka brand from Brown-Forman for $220m. 

Mexico’s FEMSA To Invest In Operations Following Non-Core Divestments

Following divestments in recent years, FEMSA in Mexico will invest 237bn pesos over five years in operations and in returning value to shareholders by share buy backs and dividends. After a strategic review, FEMSA decided to sell its stakes in Heineken Holding and Heineken NV. It now intends to focus on core businesses like its South American retail units OXXO and Coca-Cola FEMSA, its Coca-Cola bottling operation.

Coca-Cola Icecek Acquires Coca-Cola Bangladesh Beverages

Coca-Cola Icecek in Turkey is to acquire Coca-Cola Bangladesh Beverages Ltd., one of two bottlers in Bangladesh producing and distributing Coke brands there, for $130 million. Coca-Cola subsidiary International Beverages Private Ltd Bangladesh established the CCBB plant in 2017. CCI operates in 11 Muslim-majority countries in the Middle East and Asia. Its CEO Karim Yahi said the acquisition will allow a “more diverse geographical footprint for CCI and solidifies its alignment with The Coca-Cola Company." CCBB serves consumers in the Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh and Dhaka regions. It employs over 300 in a bottling plant and three warehouses, and secured over 45 percent of the country’s soft drinks category last year, according to CCI itself.

Kona Gold Beverages Rebrands Highdrate Line As Highdrate D9 Seltzers, Adds New Flavors

Functional beverage company Kona Gold Beverages, Inc. has announced the launch of the HighDrate D9 Seltzer Drink range, a rebrand for its HighDrate line with a healthier positioning that it hopes will appeal to its existing customers as well as new health-conscious shoppers. HighDrate D9 Seltzer Drinks replace HighDrate's CBD Energy Waters. They contain 10mg of THC from premium hemp sources, as well as natural and organic flavorings, real cane sugar and a little citric acid. Each 12oz. slim can has 7g of carbs and 25 calories. Debuting in two flavors - Blue Raspberry and Piña Colada – there will be an initial production run of 10,000 units of each. 

Spindrift Launches Sparkling Waters in Nostalgic Flavors

Two classic beverages are being reimagined by sparkling water brand Spindrift Beverage Co. with Grapeade and Island Punch variants. Each contains real squeezed fruit but without added sweeteners, artificial flavors and artificial colors. Grapeade uses Concord grapes from the Pacific Northwest; Island Punch is made with real passion fruit, orange and guava juice. Spindrift announced the new products using a video series, called "Squeezed", a four-part "podumockery" or mock podcast to be shown on social media channels and on the brand’s website. Both products are available online and in select retailers from next month.

New 16oz. Resealable Aluminum Bottle For Perfect Hydration Alkaline Water To Hit Shelves In Q2

Alkaline Water brand Perfect Hydration Alkaline Water will launch a 16 oz. resealable aluminum bottle in the second quarter of this year, joining the brand’s existing SKUs in 100% post-consumer recycled plastic bottles and one aluminum can. Louisa Lawless, Chief Strategy Officer, said: “Aligning with our rebrand, this SKU reasserts our commitment to help our fans perform their best every day without sacrificing the health of our planet.” Perfect Hydration sales are up 51 percent in a category growing at 3.3 percent. The new aluminum bottle will appear in several channels, including foodservice, non-traditional, conventional, natural and convenience.

Ginsa, An Korean-Inspired Sparkling Ginseng Tonic

Ginsa from Ginsa brands is a sparkling ginseng tonic based on Korean red ginseng, which is thought to boost energy, focus and immunity, as well as battle inflammation. There are three flavors - just ginseng, ginseng + Korean pear, and ginseng + yuzu – each containing 20 calories and no caffeine. It can be purchased at ginsabrands.com and, from May, at retail locations like Central Market in Texas and Harmons in Utah. Founder Juliet Kim Blake, who has worked on brands like BodyArmor and Mamma Chia, said “it was important for me to authentically build the ginsa brand around my Korean heritage. The branding is inspired by the Korean ‘bojagi,’ a traditional Korean wrapping cloth commonly made from silk in a variety of vibrant colors and patchwork pattern.”

ThaiBev Reports First Quarter EBITDA Gains Despite 5.9% Fall In Sales Revenue

Thai Beverage reported sales revenue for the quarter ending December 31, 2023 was down almost six percent to 76.1 billion baht, but EBITDA was up 1.9 percent versus the same quarter a year ago. ThaiBev attributed the EBITDA improvement on “effective cost management”. Beer sales were down 14 percent; spirits revenue climbed 0.5 percent.
