Minute Maid Launches Its First Alcohol Beverage, A Cocktail Range Called Spiked

Minute Maid Spiked is a new range of ready-to-serve flavored wine cocktails, to be launched next year, marking the brand’s first foray into alcohol beverages. They come in 1.5 liter bottles with an ABV of 13.9% and in three flavors: lime margarita, strawberry daiquiri and piña colada. Distribution will be limited to the US first, and managed by Red Tree Beverages, a Coca-Cola subsidiary set up in July to explore opportunities in the alcohol category. The new line will join other Coca-Cola alcohol offerings that are produced and sold by third-party manufacturers, and in October, Coca-Cola and Pernod Ricard collaborated on Absolut & Sprite, a vodka-based RTD cocktail scheduled for launch in 2024.

Coca-Cola To Rollout Dynamic Pricing Vending Machines, Possibly Next Year

Following a trial started in May, Coca-Cola Bottlers Japan is introducing thousands more dynamic pricing vending machines, although there’s not yet a decision on whether the rollout will be next year or later. The company will first gain more information on consumer reaction and the impact on profits. It already operates some 700,000 vending machines, but the dynamic pricing machines allow prices to be raised or lowered remotely to address changing demand conditions during the day.

Morning Fresh To Broaden Its Anti-Hangover Beverage Range And Explore New Categories, Formats

Morning Fresh, an Indian anti-hangover beverage brand, is broadening its category and format options, especially in ready-to-drink beverages, to leverage the growing demand for products that help improve health. When it launched, Morning Fresh had two RTD SKUs and has been expanding its range with new flavors and also a sachet format for travelers. It also offers “hangover kits and bulk orders for weddings, which are usually a two- or three-day affair in India, with lots of festivities involved”. Innovation opportunities in India come from the wealth of natural ingredients, like herbs and spices, and new formats such as gummies. The brand is also addressing other health issues, including sleep quality, something that has suffered since the pandemic, with ingredients like melatonin, mulberry leaf extract, L-theanine, silk protein and tulsi. Morning Fresh also aims to break out beyond India to other Asian and Middle Eastern markets in the next financial year.

Mitra9 Navigates Challenges In Using Kava And Kratom In Its Functional Beverages

Mitra9, a functional brand, has changed its formulation to offer a cleaner label in an attempt to reduce costs and improve margins. Using kava, which helps relaxation, and kratom for an energy boost, the Mitra9 range includes a kratom seltzer, a low-carbonate kava sparkling product, a powder format, and a kava and kratom shot. Co-founder and CEO Dallas Vasquez, said that after some nine months of research, the brand managed to take kava and develop a 12-ounce lightly carbonated drink. However, both key ingredients are controversial and could face regulatory limitations. The FDA says kratom is not a legal dietary ingredient and it has rejected all New Dietary Ingredient notifications for it so far, but some states allow it. Also, the FDA warned in 2002 that kava -containing dietary supplements could trigger severe liver injury and it’s not currently listed as General Recognized As Safe for use in food. FDA guidance says dietary supplements should not be sold as drinks and so serving size is used to distinguish between supplements and conventional beverages.
